Love-bites (or hickeys) are a temporary mark or bruise on one's skin resulting from kissing or sucking (not biting) forceful enough to burst blood vessels beneath the skin. They could also be called "love-marks", due to the absence of biting, but this usage is not widespread. Love-bites usually occur during acts of intimacy and take anything from one to five days to fade entirely, depending on the severity of the 'bite'.
Normally love-bites are associated with the neck, however it is entirely possible to develop (or inflict) a love-bite on almost any part of the skin. The nipple and the surrounding areola are not as sensitive to love-bites due to a darker pigmentation.
